Per Capgeek.com, the Wings have approximately $50.38 million committed to eight forwards (Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen, Filppula, Hudler, Cleary, Draper and Ritola, who signed a contract worth approximately $517K), six defensemen (Lidstrom, Rafalski, Stuart, Kronwall, Ericsson and Kindl) and two goaltenders (Howard, Osgood).

With the salary cap increasing from $56.8 million to somewhere between $58.8-59 million, the Wings have about eight-and-a-half million dollars to re-sign Bertuzzi and Holmstrom, who will probably return at their previous salaries ($1.5 million for Bertuzzi, $2.2 million for Holmstrom), re-sign their RFAs at slight increases (think an average of approximately $800,000 per player, or approximately $3.2 million), leaving the Wings with, I would assume, a payroll commitment of $57 million and a million or two bucks to play with in finding a #6 defenseman (Lilja?), holding onto Derek Meech for the present moment, and looking for that mythical 13th forward who can play a Dallas Drake-style crash-and-bang forechecking game.
